Union Club (1877)
Architect: M. P. Manning
Location: Westgate Road/Neville Street/Collingwood Street. Status: Listed Grade II.
A French Renaissance style building, but not as grand as Johnstone's No. 30 Grainger Street. The main club rooms at the front are an attractive jumble of bay windows, tall chimneys, pedimented dormers and columns and pilasters, all concentrated above a fairly plain ground floor, making the building a little top heavy. The supporting rooms are in a plain wing to the rear. Unfortunately, the property was vacant for at least 20 years before being renovated by the pub chain J. D. Wetherspoons.
