St Bartholomews, Benton

St. Bartholomew's Church, Benton is of particular interset for its early gothic revival tower and spire, a well proportioned composition of 1790. The later Victorian Gothic work, 'lancet' in the chancel and 'perpendicular' in the south aisle with its attractive porch is pleasing work of its period. The spacious interior contains a font of 1857 with floral and heraldic carving, an interesting series of mural tablets, and two of the earliest ledger stones in the country, dated 1581 and 1587.
