Holy Saviour Church, Sugley, dedicated in 1837. Designed by Benjamin Green, who also designed Dalton Church and the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. The foundation stone was laid on 24 June 1836 by Charles Bulmer. A William IV silver coin was placed in a glass vessel and sunk in the foundations. The church is built in Early English style and runs north to south instead of the usual east to west due to the existence of a disused pitshaft on the east side. It was built as a chapel of ease to Newburn Parish Church and became a separate parish fifty years later in 1887.
