Thomas Bewick (1755 - 1828) was an artist-engraver who worked virtually all of his life in Newcastle. Ne was renowed internationally even in his own lifetime for his wood engraving. Most famously for his illustrations for 'A General History of Quadrupeds' and A History of British Birds'.
